Technically Proven Since 1988

From humble beginnings in a single car garage, Huntech has grown into an internationally recognised hunting brand.

It began with Steve Richards, an avid hunter who has spent more time in the bush and on mountaintops than most. Steve approaches hunting with total commitment, never doing anything by halves. When he heads into the field, he often goes for days at a time, tackling some of the most rugged and demanding terrain on earth. That firsthand experience shaped the brand from the start and still drives every piece of Huntech hunting apparel today.

In the early 1980s, most hunting gear was simply wool farming or lifestyle clothing. It worked well enough for the time, but it was not purpose built for the real demands of hunting.

Seeing the gap firsthand, Steve set out to create something better. Driven by necessity and determination, he began designing hunting clothing using more modern fabrics. His goal was simple: make durable, high performance garments designed specifically for hunters and the conditions they face.

In 1988, Huntech was founded and Steve introduced the first dedicated range of hunting apparel to the Australasian market.

He started small, using high quality American imported polar fleece fabric and sewing each garment by hand in his garage. The range included several practical styles designed for real hunting conditions, and it quickly became a standout success. Demand grew fast as word spread among hunters, and retailers soon began asking to stock the new products.

The polar fleece range proved so popular that it helped shape the modern hunting clothing market. Today, nearly every hunting brand still carries fleece products based on the same core styles Steve pioneered.

Steve was always focused on innovation. From the beginning, he tested the latest fabrics and outdoor technologies to create reliable hunting clothing and accessories that performed in tough conditions. As new three layer laminate fabrics and modern camouflage patterns emerged, Huntech was among the first to bring them into dedicated hunting gear. Over time, products like the Huntech gaiters and bivvy became well known among hunters, with stories still shared around campfires today.

In late 2012, Steve made the decision to sell the brand. To keep improving product quality and expand the range, Huntech needed access to specialised materials, components, and larger scale production. After receiving interest from around the world, Steve chose to sell Huntech to Global Velocity Group (GVG). The decision was based on a shared commitment to integrity, performance, and lasting quality in hunting apparel.

Global Velocity Group is a New Zealand owned company with long standing relationships and production partnerships across Australasia. Since acquiring Huntech, GVG has brought together experienced outdoor clothing designers and technical sportswear specialists to continue pushing innovation in hunting gear, fabric performance, and functional design.

Huntech’s goal is to produce hunting clothing and accessories that meet best practice standards in sustainability, technical performance, comfort, and durability. GVG works closely with trusted offshore manufacturing partners to ensure every garment is built to those standards.

Over recent years, the Huntech range has continued to grow. New technical hunting gear has been introduced in response to what hunters in the field have asked for most. Every product is tested under real conditions by New Zealand hunters, guides, and conservationists before it reaches stores, ensuring it performs when it matters.

As Huntech continues to develop, the mission remains the same. To support hunters, guides, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts with high performance hunting clothing and hunting accessories designed for the demands of the wild.
